ACL Services brings Chief Audit Executives together for business strategy summit
Leading CAEs Provide Insights on Audit’s Role in Troubled Economic Times
NEW YORK CITY, Oct. 30, 2008 — Leading Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) from some of the world's top organizations gathered yesterday in New York City for a strategy day. Discussion centered on the economic downturn and strategies for improving operational efficiency and recovering revenue.
“We are evolving internal audit to provide better auditing of organizational risk," said Andrew Raftis, senior vice president & auditor, AXA Equitable. Raftis shared AXA's unique approach to identifying risk and dealing with sensitive areas of the business. AXA Group's Strategic Audit team is expert at not only identifying key risk areas, but at analyzing strategy and business execution. "It's critically important to provide greater visibility by using strategic auditing methods in your organization," Raftis added. AXA is leveraging business and audit capabilities to enable business focused reporting and insight to the CEO, management and the audit committee.
The CAE Summit, presented by ACL Services Ltd., PricewaterhouseCoopers and MIS Training Institute, was the first time leading CAEs have gathered since the economic crisis began.
Presenter John Verver, ACL’s vice president of alliances & product strategy, said: “The global liquidity crisis has dramatically increased risk levels in business, and made longer term planning much more difficult. Organizations need to leverage their own resources within internal audit, including well-honed skill sets and existing technology.”
At the core of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), internal audit is vital to providing increased transparency and insight into the business. It is made more efficient and effective through evolving best practices and the use of technology.
Other speakers included keynote speaker Sandra Cartie, chief audit executive, Bristol-Myers Squibb; Jay Goldberg, vice president of internal audit, Take-Two Interactive Software; Brian P. Reilly, senior vice president and chief auditor, Travelers; Joel F. Kramer, vice president, Internal Audit Division, MIS Training Institute; and Duaine Smith, PricewaterhouseCoopers Internal Audit Services partner, Advisory IFRS specialist.
